Toe Nail Surgery
All nail surgery procedures are performed under a local anaesthetic, this will make the toe completely numb, ensuring a painless procedure. We will perform one of two possible methods of nail surgery, which are:

Partial Nail Avulsion:
This when a small section of nail is removed. Following which a chemical treatment called Phenol is applied to prevent regrowth.

Total Nail Avulsion:
The same procedure as above, although the entire nail is removed. This is seen as a more permanent solution and used more in cases where the nail is severely ingrown or thickened.​

Written consent is required for this procedure and a pre-surgery assessment carried out. If the patient is under 16 then parental/ or guardian consent is required.

For this appointment it is important to have the appropriate medical history as this will allow our podiatrists to carry out a safe surgery.

You will need the following for your appointment:
Appropriate post-surgery footwear i.e. flip flops, open toe sandals. Please arrange for transport home as you cannot drive after a local anaesthetic.
